Study in Canberra

Parent information

Q. How do I contact my son/daughter when they are in Canberra ?
A. We encourage students to telephone their family very soon after they have settled into their accommodation. You should also encourage your son or daughter to make sure they contact you!

Q. How do I transfer money to my son's/daughter's bank account?
A. After opening a bank account, your son/daughter will be given the bank's details (branch number, account number, account name). Once your child has this information they can provide it to you and you will be able to arrange telegraphic transfers directly into their bank account.

Q. Will my son/daughter be safe in Canberra?
A. Canberra is a very safe city in which to live and study. There is a lower crime rate in comparison to the larger Australian cities. In addition, the University of Canberra has on-campus security working 24 hours a day. However, we still advise students to be cautious. They should not walk around late at night on their own and should make sure their room is locked when they are not at home.

Q. How do I get copies of my son's/daughter's school/university results?
A. There are privacy laws in Australia that prevent Australian education institutions from giving out any details about students, such as address and results, even to parents. If your child agrees to have the results released to you they must submit that in writing to the school/university.
